Bo District Council Reconstructs Nduvuibu CHC

M

As part of the implementation of the subproject for Bo District, community participation was instrumental to ensure community ownership and sustainability through: selection, launching, community monitoring, and a Community Grievance Redress Mechanism was set up.

A key strategy employed in the implementation of the CHC was the effective inclusion of the Bo District Council Project Management Team members in the implementation of the subproject.

At each stage of implementation, through the following: selection (Approved by Council), collaboration with the concerned Ministry Department and Agencies – MDAs (Health and Education sectors in the district), effective technical monitoring by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (M&E), Works Engineer and Environmental and Social Officer (ESO) were duly followed.

The council also employed effective joint monitoring by the Office of the Chief Administrator, Ministry Department, and Agencies from Health and Education, Civil Society Organization, Council’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Civil Works Engineer, Information, Education and Communication Officer, the Environmental and Social Officer, and the Development and Planning Officer.

Nduvuibu CHC, which was situated in a substandard private property of a health practitioner, a National Community Health Nurse who served as the Nurse in charge for almost 20 years, can now boast of having a newly built Community Health Center (CHC) with a vast number of patients turning out. After the completion of the Community Health Center, the District Health Management Team has deployed ten Nurses working on a day and night shift. Before this time, the health center had only one nurse. The CHC is now functioning well, providing primary health care services to the residents and attending to patients, including pregnant women and children under five. Inpatient and outpatient data for August 2024 were 450 and 430, respectively, as compared to 312 and 364 before August and September 2023.

The subproject was funded by the World Bank under the Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivering Project (AGBSDP) and was mainly drawn from the Bo District Council 2021-2023 District Development Plan. From the needs assessment conducted in 2021, in Kakua Chiefdom showed that the reconstruction of the Nduvuibu Community Health Center (CHC) was a felt need of the people in those communities.
